As noted in the chart above, two major themes dominated ValuationSpeak in 2011: buy-sell agreements and statutory fair value.
- Buy-Sell Agreements. We wrote a great deal about buy-sell agreements. My latest book is Buy-Sell Agreements for Closely Held and Family Business Owners. There has been rising interest in the book among attorneys, business appraisers, financial planners, and business owners. This is reflected by the fact that I have given 10 speeches, webinars and seminars on the topic in each of 2010 and 2011. We’ll talk about this topic more in 2012 for sure. If your group is looking for a speaker on this important topic for every business and its owners, give me a call (901-685-2120).
- Statutory Fair Value. We also wrote about fair value of the statutory kind. I am in the process of a lengthy series on statutory fair value. There are perhaps two more posts following the most recent, Statutory Fair Value #18 (The So-Called Prerogatives of Control and the Minority Interest Discount) remaining in the series. We will then package the series into a useful e-book on the topic. In 2012, we will continue the topic. Look for posts on case law in various jurisdictions.
We will continue to focus on topics of interest to attorneys, accountants, financial planners, business owners, and business appraisers during 2012. I’m looking forward to another year of blogging and continuing the many conversations that the blog has created.
If you are new to the blog, take a look at the last post of 2011, which provided links to the five most popular posts of the year. That’s a good way to introduce yourself and others to the evolving content and conversation of ValuationSpeak.
